How to Choose a Neighborhood for Sober Living in Los Angeles

Los Angeles County is huge, and where you live in early recovery shapes your days: your commute, your meetings, your rent and who you run into. Here’s how the main areas compare for sober living, based on 157 Sober Living Network member homes in the county as of October 2026.

Westside and beach cities

Santa Monica, Venice, Mar Vista, Culver City, Marina del Rey and Playa del Rey. Strong recovery community, lots of meetings, beach and outdoor life. The trade-off is price: posted rents for Westside homes start around $1,000 and run past $6,000 a month. Santa Monica · Venice · Mar Vista · Culver City

Central LA and Hollywood

Hollywood, West Hollywood, Echo Park, Silver Lake and Highland Park. Close to jobs and transit, with meetings every hour of the day. Busy nightlife means some people find it harder to avoid old triggers. Hollywood · West Hollywood · Echo Park

San Fernando Valley

North Hollywood, Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Van Nuys, Reseda, Encino and Woodland Hills. Quieter, more residential and a bit cheaper than the Westside, though you’ll often want a car. North Hollywood · Sherman Oaks · Reseda

Long Beach

The largest concentration of Sober Living Network homes in the county, with typical rents around $750 a month. A big, established recovery community and good bus service. Long Beach sober living

San Pedro, Wilmington and the South Bay

Many long-running, affordable homes, with typical rents around $690. Quieter port-town feel, farther from central LA. San Pedro · Torrance · Inglewood

San Gabriel Valley and Pomona

Covina, Azusa, La Verne, Monrovia and Pomona. Suburban, family-friendly and usually around $800 a month. Pomona · Monrovia · La Verne

How to decide

  • Distance from old triggers. Many people do better a few neighborhoods away from where they used. See relocating for sober living.
  • Your commute. Pick a home within easy reach of work, school or your outpatient program.
  • Budget. The same structure can cost twice as much on the Westside as in Long Beach.
  • Meetings and community. Visit a few local meetings before you commit.
