About Sober Living California

A free guide to sober living homes in Los Angeles and Orange County.

How this directory works

Listings on Sober Living California show who each home serves, the price when the home publishes one, and how to contact the home directly, when that information is available.

What this site is, and what it is not

This is a directory, not a referral service. We do not charge homes to be listed, we do not charge you to use the site, and we do not take referral fees or sell placement. When you find a home that looks right, you contact it directly. Our listing policy explains how a home gets listed or removed.

A sober living home is a shared, substance-free residence with house rules. It is not treatment and does not provide medical or clinical care. If you need detox or treatment, start there first.

Who runs this site

Sober Living California is run by Design for Recovery, which also operates sober living homes in Los Angeles. Design for Recovery’s homes (Playa del Rey, Jefferson/West Adams and Modjeska) and the Bridges Sober Living Apartments homes in Westchester, which are also affiliated with us, are labeled “Affiliated with this site” wherever they appear, and affiliated homes are listed first wherever homes appear in a list. Every other home in the directory is unaffiliated with us.

The phone number on this site reaches Sober Living California, which is run by Design for Recovery, operator of some of the homes listed here. You can always contact any listed home directly instead.

How listings are built

Listings come from public sources: the Sober Living Network’s member directory and the homes’ own websites. We record what is published, including the price, who the home serves and how to reach it. We have not visited or inspected most homes; a few listings have been checked by hand. We update or remove a listing when we learn it is out of date. Prices and openings change, so confirm them with the home before you decide.

California’s Department of Health Care Services licenses and certifies treatment programs; it does not license or certify sober living homes. Some homes choose to join a voluntary, non-government group such as the Sober Living Network. Membership is not a state license or certification. Our guide on how to check a sober living home explains what to ask and how to confirm a membership.

Clinical advisor

Sheldon Cohen, LMFT, is the site’s clinical advisor. A page says when he has reviewed it. As of October 2026, he has not yet reviewed any pages.
